Disease Information

 Disease OntologyMeSH
Disease ID:DOID:3328D004833
Disease Name:temporal lobe epilepsyEpilepsy, Temporal Lobe
Category:Disease OntologyMeSH
Type:Nervous System Diseases
Define:A focal epilepsy that is characterized by recurrent, unprovoked focal seizures that originate in the temporal lobe of the brain and last about one or two minutes.A localization-related (focal) form of epilepsy characterized by recurrent seizures that arise from foci within the TEMPORAL LOBE, most commonly from its mesial aspect. A wide variety of psychic phenomena may be associated, including illusions, hallucinations, dyscognitive states, and affective experiences. The majority of complex partial seizures (see EPILEPSY, COMPLEX PARTIAL) originate from the temporal lobes. Temporal lobe seizures may be classified by etiology as cryptogenic, familial, or symptomatic. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p321).

[1] PubMed ID:33635011
Disease Name:Epilepsy, Temporal Lobe
Sample:Serum
Dysfunction Pattern:Expression(highly expressed)
Validated Method:Western Blot//Transfection//Flow Cytometry//qRT-PCR//MTT//ELISA
Description:Serum levels of Zfas1 were higher in TLE patients than in healthy controls (p<0.05). Transfection of pcDNA-Zfas1 weakened the viability and proliferation of neurons and increased neuronal apoptosis (p<0.05). Meanwhile, pcDNA3.1-Zfas1 transfection promoted lipopolysaccharide-induced release of cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (p<0.05), and boosted NF-κB activation by elevating the expression of NF-κB p65, pIκBα, and IKKβ in neurons (p<0.05).
Causality:Yes
Causal Description:Transfection of pcDNA-Zfas1 weakened the viability and proliferation of neurons and increased neuronal apoptosis (p<0.05).
