Disease Information

 Disease OntologyMeSH
Disease ID:DOID:3829D010911
Disease Name:pituitary adenomaPituitary Neoplasms
Category:Disease OntologyMeSH
Type:Neoplasms
Define:A pituitary gland benign neoplasm that derives_from glandular epithelial cells.Neoplasms which arise from or metastasize to the PITUITARY GLAND. The majority of pituitary neoplasms are adenomas, which are divided into non-secreting and secreting forms. Hormone producing forms are further classified by the type of hormone they secrete. Pituitary adenomas may also be characterized by their staining properties (see ADENOMA, BASOPHIL; ADENOMA, ACIDOPHIL; and ADENOMA, CHROMOPHOBE). Pituitary tumors may compress adjacent structures, including the HYPOTHALAMUS, several CRANIAL NERVES, and the OPTIC CHIASM. Chiasmal compression may result in bitemporal HEMIANOPSIA.

Disease Name:Pituitary Neoplasms
Sample:PitNET tissues
Dysfunction Pattern:Interaction[increasing miR-424-5p]
Validated Method:RNA Pull-Down//Western Blot//Wound Healing Assay//qPCR//Flow Cytometry//FISH//RIP//Luciferase Report Assay//Microarray//IHC//EdU Staining//Transwell Assay
Description:Both XIST and bFGF exhibited high expression, but miR-424-5p had a low expression in invasive PitNET tissues as compared to non-invasive PitNET normal pituitary tissues. In conclusion, the fundamental findings of the present study suggested that the functional suppression of XIST downregulated bFGF to inhibit the development of PitNET by increasing miR-424-5p expression, proposing XIST as a novel therapeutic target for PitNET.
Causality:Yes
Causal Description: Furthermore, depleted XIST or bFGF, or elevated miR-424-5p was revealed to suppress the proliferation, migration, invasion, and promote cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of invasive PitNET cells.
