Disease Information

Disease ID:DOID:1909D008545
Disease Name:melanomaMelanoma
Category:Disease OntologyMeSH
Type:Neoplasms
Define:A cell type cancer that has_material_basis_in abnormally proliferating cells derives_from melanocytes which are found in skin, the bowel and the eye.A malignant neoplasm derived from cells that are capable of forming melanin, which may occur in the skin of any part of the body, in the eye, or, rarely, in the mucous membranes of the genitalia, anus, oral cavity, or other sites. It occurs mostly in adults and may originate de novo or from a pigmented nevus or malignant lentigo. Melanomas frequently metastasize widely, and the regional lymph nodes, liver, lungs, and brain are likely to be involved. The incidence of malignant skin melanomas is rising rapidly in all parts of the world. (Stedman, 25th ed; from Rook et al., Textbook of Dermatology, 4th ed, p2445)

Reference

[1] PubMed ID:30651872
Disease Name:Melanoma
Sample:melanoma cell lines and tumor tissues
Dysfunction Pattern:Interaction[ZEB1-AS1/miR-1224-5p]
Validated Method:qRT-PCR//Luciferase Report Assay
Description:The expression levels of ZEB1-AS1 were increased in melanoma cell lines and tumor tissues as indicated by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis. In addition, the ZEB1-AS1/miR-1224-5p interaction may be a promising therapeutic target for melanoma treatment.
Causality:Yes
Causal Description:Furthermore, knockdown of ZEB1-AS1 inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of melanoma, suggesting a role of ZEB1-AS1 in the development and progression of melanoma.
Clinical-realted Application:Kaplan-Meier analysis suggested that higher expression of ZEB1-AS1 predicts poor prognosis of melanoma patients.

Disease Name:Melanoma
Sample:cell lines
Dysfunction Pattern:Expression[highly expressed]
Validated Method:RNA-seq
Description:Also, we observed upregulation of the lncRNA ZEB1-AS1 (ZEB1 antisense RNA 1) in melanoma cell lines.
Causality:No
