Disease Information

 Disease OntologyMeSH
Disease ID:DOID:0080600D000086382
Disease Name:COVID-19COVID-19
Category:Disease OntologyMeSH
Type:Infections
Define:A Coronavirus infection that is characterized by fever, cough and shortness of breath and that has_material_basis_in SARS-CoV-2.A viral disorder generally characterized by high FEVER; COUGH; DYSPNEA; CHILLS; PERSISTENT TREMOR; MUSCLE PAIN; HEADACHE; SORE THROAT; a new loss of taste and/or smell (see AGEUSIA and ANOSMIA) and other symptoms of a VIRAL PNEUMONIA. In severe cases, a myriad of coagulopathy associated symptoms often correlating with COVID-19 severity is seen (e.g., BLOOD COAGULATION; THROMBOSIS; ACUTE RESPIRATORY DISTRESS SYNDROME; SEIZURES; HEART ATTACK; STROKE; multiple CEREBRAL INFARCTIONS; KIDNEY FAILURE; catastrophic ANTIPHOSPHOLIPID ANTIBODY SYNDROME and/or DISSEMINATED INTRAVASCULAR COAGULATION). In younger patients, rare inflammatory syndromes are sometimes associated with COVID-19 (e.g., atypical KAWASAKI SYNDROME; TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME; pediatric multisystem inflammatory disease; and CYTOKINE STORM SYNDROME). A coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, in the genus BETACORONAVIRUS is the causative agent.

Reference

[1] PubMed ID:34463043
Disease Name:COVID-19
Sample:saliva and nasopharyngeal swab samples
Dysfunction Pattern:Expression(highly expressed)
Validated Method:qRT-PCR
Description:We evaluated the expression of lncRNAs NEAT1, MALAT1, and MIR3142 in saliva and nasopharyngeal swab from SARS-CoV-2 positive (n = 34) and negative patients (n = 46). A higher expression of the lncRNAs NEAT1 and MALAT1 (p < 0.05) were found in positive samples. NEAT1 had a higher expression mainly in saliva samples (p < 0.001), and MALAT1 was upregulated in nasopharyngeal samples (p < 0.05). Area under the ROC curve for NEAT1 in saliva was 0.8067. This study was the first to investigate the expression of lncRNAs in saliva and nasopharyngeal samples of COVID-19 patients, which gives new insights into the initial response to infection and infectivity and may provide new biomarkers for severity and targets for therapy.

[2] PubMed ID:34675627
Disease Name:COVID-19
Sample:SARS-CoV-2-infected cells
Dysfunction Pattern:Interaction(hsa-miR-374-5p and hsa-miR-155-5p)
Validated Method:Bioinformatics Analysis
Description:Our analysis suggested that lncRNA NEAT1 might regulate the host immune response through two miRNAs, hsa-miR-374-5p and hsa-miR-155-5p, which control the expression of SOCS1, IL6, IL1B, CSF1R, CD274, TLR6, and TNF.

[3] PubMed ID:35982898
Disease Name:COVID-19
Sample:80 COVID-19 patients
Dysfunction Pattern:Expression(highly expressed)
Validated Method:qRT-PCR
Description:NEAT1 and TUG1 expression levels were higher in COVID-19 patients compared with controls (P<0.001).
Causality:No
Causal Description:
Clinical-realted Application: NEAT1 and TUG1 had significant correlations with the measured cytokines, and based on the multivariate regression analysis, NEAT1 is the independent predictor for survival in COVID-19 patients (P=0.02).

[4] PubMed ID:35007307
Disease Name:COVID-19
Sample:peripheral blood mononuclear cells
Dysfunction Pattern:Expression(highly expressed)
Validated Method:RNA-seq
Description:The immunomodulatory long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) NEAT1 and MALAT1 were highly differentially expressed between mild and severe patients in multiple cell types.
Causality:No
